Resume Example With No Experience
A recent community college graduate in Tacoma applying for a first full-time job in customer service or office support. There is no paid work history, so the page is built from three years of volunteering, a class project with a real client and two certifications.
A fictional resume written by our team. The person, employers and numbers are invented; the tools, certifications and schools are real.
Why it works
- 1
“Recent business graduate looking for a first full-time job in customer service or office support. Three years of weekly shifts at a food pantry intake desk, checking in about 45 households a shift and keeping the records the pantry reports to its funders. Fluent in English and Spanish; type 62 WPM.”
With no paid jobs to point to, the summary names the job wanted and the closest work already done, with a number attached. The usual line here is something like 'hard-working team player eager to learn', which could describe anyone.
- 2
“Check in about 45 households each Saturday shift, confirm eligibility and answer questions in English and Spanish”
Volunteer work sits in the experience section and is written like a job: what was done, how much and for whom. A manager hiring for a front desk cares that this person has already run one, paid or not.
- 3
“Moved the paper sign-in sheet to a Google Form in 2024, cutting the monthly count for funders from a full day of tallying to under an hour”
One change and what it saved. Without a work history it is hard to show that someone fixes things that annoy them, and this line does it.
- 4
“Led a 4-person student team that redesigned walk-in booking for a local bike repair shop”
A class project counts when it had a real client and a result. Naming the client and what changed keeps it from reading like homework.
- 5
“Held 2 drop-in hours every week for a full school year, helping classmates with Excel and business math”
A small commitment kept for a whole year. Reliability is the main thing a first employer is guessing at, and a weekly schedule with dates answers it.
How it scored
We ran this example through the same free roast you can use, three times, and kept the middle result. The roast ranks a resume against a typical applicant pile and grades hard, so a resume with little work history can be a good example of its kind and still not score high.

Use it as a skeleton, then replace every line with your own work. A copied bullet with someone else's numbers is the fastest way to fail an interview question.
