High School Student Resume Example
A high school junior in Overland Park applying for a first part-time job at a grocery store, cafe or shop. The page runs on babysitting, a volunteer role and a sport, which is the usual material for a first job, and it is short on purpose: a first resume with white space is fine, and padding it is not.
A fictional resume written by our team. The person, employers and numbers are invented; the tools, certifications and schools are real.
Why it works
- 1
“High school junior looking for a part-time job of 12 to 15 hours a week. Available weekdays after 4 p.m. and all day on weekends, with a driver's license and a car. Holds a ServSafe Food Handler certificate.”
For a first part-time job, availability is often the deciding detail, so it comes first. A manager building next week's schedule wants to know when this person can work and how they will get there.
- 2
“Care for children ages 3 to 9 for 3 families, about 8 hours a week, including school pickup and dinner”
Babysitting is real work, so it is written like a job: the ages, the hours, the number of families. It shows that parents already trust this person with something that matters.
- 3
“Asked back by all 3 families each summer, and referred to 2 of them by the first”
Repeat customers and referrals are the closest thing a teenager has to a reference letter, and they fit on one line.
- 4
“Work the concession stand at about 12 Saturday tournaments a season, taking orders and making change”
This is the closest thing on the page to a register job, so it is described in plain words a grocery or retail manager will recognize.
- 5
“Train about 10 hours a week in season, including 6 a.m. summer practices, while staying on the honor roll”
A sport shows the thing a shift manager worries about most with a first-time hire: showing up on time, every time. The hours and the early start make it concrete.
How it scored
We ran this example through the same free roast you can use, three times, and kept the middle result. The roast ranks a resume against a typical applicant pile and grades hard, so a resume with little work history can be a good example of its kind and still not score high.
