Physical Therapist Resume
Brutally Roasted
You evaluate, treat and document a dozen patients a day and still get the post-op knee to 120 degrees. Your resume says 'provided physical therapy services to patients.' That is the license, written as a sentence.

Common Mistakes on Physical Therapist Resumes
The patterns that keep turning up, and why they cost you the call.
- 01
Setting missing. Outpatient orthopedics, acute care, inpatient rehab, skilled nursing, home health and pediatrics each run differently, and the clinic director is hiring for one.
- 02
Credentials scattered. The DPT, the state license, any ABPTS board certification (OCS, NCS, SCS and so on) and certifications like vestibular or strength and conditioning belong in one block near the top.
- 03
No caseload numbers: patients per day, evaluations a week, visits per plan of care, productivity against target.
- 04
Outcomes left out. Many clinics track functional outcome measures such as FOTO, the LEFS, the Oswestry or the NDI. If yours did, a result from them is the most convincing line you can write.
- 05
Special programs hidden: a return-to-sport protocol you built, a vestibular program, a fall-prevention class, students you supervised as a clinical instructor.
What Healthcare Reviewers Check First
Generic resume advice averages every field together. This is what someone hiring for this one actually looks for.
An active license in the state, then whether you have worked in a setting like theirs. Outpatient, acute, inpatient rehab, skilled nursing and home health each have their own pace and paperwork.
Caseload and documentation. Patients per day and evaluations per week show whether you can carry a full schedule without falling behind on notes.
Specialization that matches the clinic: an orthopedic clinic may look for the OCS or manual therapy training, a neuro rehab unit for the NCS or vestibular work, a pediatric clinic for the PCS or school-based experience.
One Physical Therapist Bullet, Rewritten
The advice above, applied to one typical line.
Before
Provided physical therapy services, developed treatment plans, and documented patient progress.
After
Outpatient orthopedic PT seeing 12 to 14 patients a day in WebPT, about 9 evaluations a week. Built the clinic's ACL return-to-sport protocol, now used by 4 therapists for 60+ patients, and held an 88% plan-of-care completion rate with notes closed the same day.
Treatment plans and documentation are what every licensed PT does. The rewrite gives the setting, the load, the EMR, a program others adopted and a retention number, which tells a clinic director how you run a schedule.

Sample Roast Lines for Physical Therapists
The kind of lines the roast writes for this role. Yours will be about whatβs actually on your resume.
β'Developed individualized treatment plans' is what a plan of care is. Every patient gets one. What happened to them afterward?β
βYour resume says 'manual therapy techniques' and names none of them. Thrust manipulation or soft tissue work, the director would like to know.β
β'Strong interpersonal skills with patients of all ages.' Your caseload number would say that faster, and you left it out.β
How to Fix Your Physical Therapist Resume
Specific moves that actually move the grade.
- β
Open each job with the setting and the load: 'outpatient orthopedic clinic, 11 to 13 patients a day, about 8 evaluations a week.'
- β
Put the credentials block up top: DPT and school, state license with expiration, ABPTS specialist certification if you hold one, CPR/BLS, and any certifications you use with patients, such as dry needling where your state allows it.
- β
Give outcome and retention numbers where your clinic tracked them: average change on FOTO or the LEFS, visits completed per plan of care, cancellation and no-show rate on your schedule.
- β
Name the documentation system and how you used it: WebPT, Epic, Net Health or Raintree, notes closed the same day, documentation that passed the clinic's audits.
- β
Show the extra roles: clinical instructor for DPT students, a protocol you wrote, a community screening or injury prevention program you ran.

Roast My Physical Therapist Resume For FreePhysical Therapist Resume Questions
What credentials should a physical therapist list on a resume?
Put the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and school, your state license with its expiration, and any ABPTS board certification near the top. To practice, a PT needs a degree from a CAPTE-accredited program, a passing score on the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) and a license from the state. Therapists who trained before the DPT became standard may hold an MPT or BS, which is listed the same way. Add CPR/BLS and the certifications you actually use with patients.
How should a new graduate PT write a resume?
Treat clinical rotations as experience: the setting, the weeks, your caseload by the end and the patient types you treated. List the NPTE as passed with the date, or the scheduled date, and your license status. A short line about a capstone or research project helps if it relates to the setting you want.
Should I include productivity numbers?
If they were good and your clinic tracked them, yes, along with something that shows quality, like outcome scores or plan-of-care completion. Productivity on its own can read as volume over care, so pair it with a result for patients.
